Standing on the Edge of Promise Discussion Guide
SUMMARY
In this sermon titled “Standing on the Edge of Promise,” Ps Katrina explores what it means to stand at the edge of God’s promises, drawing on the account of the twelve spies sent into Canaan in Numbers 13 and 14. She highlights that every new season begins with the unknown, and that how we perceive our circumstances determines how we respond to them. Just as ten spies saw only giants while Joshua and Caleb kept their eyes on God, we too can let fear distort our view of what God has promised us.
Using the picture of binoculars, Ps Katrina reminds us that whatever we focus on grows bigger in our minds. Fear can even romanticise the past and tempt us back to old patterns, but God is not simply changing our circumstances — He is changing us. His promises have not expired, and He always finishes what He starts.
INTRO PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we come before You today with open hearts and willing spirits. We thank You for gathering us together and for the truth of Your Word. Lord, we ask that You quiet the noise of fear, doubt, and distraction in each of our minds. Open our ears to hear what You specifically want to speak to each person in this group today. Help us to be honest with one another and with You, and give us the courage to step into everything You have prepared for us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

LIFE APPLICATION
This week, identify one area of your life where fear or familiarity has been holding you back from stepping into what God has promised you. Write it down, and then write out a Scripture that speaks to that specific fear or situation. Each morning, read that verse aloud and intentionally choose to focus on how big God is rather than how big the obstacle appears. At the end of the week, reflect on how that shift in focus changed your perspective and your peace.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Our perception shapes our decisions. What we continuously focus on, whether our giants or our God, determines whether we step into His promises or stay where we are.
Fear has a way of making the past feel safer than the future. God calls us not just to survive on familiar coping mechanisms, but to trust Him fully and be transformed so we can thrive in the new seasons He has prepared.
Holding onto God’s promises requires a different spirit, one that chooses faith over fear even when the outcome is uncertain. Just as the ten spies influenced a whole generation, our choices to trust God or retreat in fear affect the people around us.
God is faithful to finish what He starts. His timing is always perfect, and the prayers and faithfulness of one season become the testimonies and breakthroughs of the next.
ENDING PRAYER
Lord Jesus, we thank You for the truth of Your Word and for the reminder that You are bigger than every giant we face. We confess that we sometimes let fear shape our perception more than faith does, and we ask for Your forgiveness and Your grace. Help each person in this group to let go of the familiar patterns and past hurts that are keeping them from stepping into all that You have promised. Give us the spirit of Caleb and Joshua, a wholehearted trust in You even when the road ahead is uncertain. We declare together that You have already won every battle, and we choose today to fix our eyes on You. Go before us this week, Lord, and remind us that You never fail. In the powerful name of Jesus we pray, amen.
